Registration for new students

Find your first-semester courses

Select your start term, then find your program. You will see the recommended courses specific for your start date. When you're ready, follow the instructions to register.

Registration for continuing students

Your interactive Plan of Study (iPOS) is your roadmap for completing your graduate degree. Review your iPOS before registering and make sure that your planned courses still meet your program requirements.

If you do not yet have an approved iPOS, use your program’s recommended course sequence which can be found in your program handbook. Contact graduate advising if you need assistance. Students admitted in fall 2022 or later are expected to submit an iPOS during their first semester.

Tips before you register

  • Sign in to My ASU and review your registration date.
  • Complete or resolve any Priority Tasks and registration holds.
  • Review the ASU academic calendar for registration, drop, add and withdrawal deadlines.
  • Review your program handbook and degree requirements.
  • Check your ASU email for instructions from New College Graduate Student Services.
  • Confirm whether any course requires instructor, faculty or advising approval.

Note: Some courses may require additional approval

Individualized instruction, internships, research, practicum and culminating-experience courses may require faculty approval, an advising form or a course permission override.

Review your program handbook and program-specific advising information before attempting to register for one of these courses. Begin the approval process early; some programs ask students to submit requests at least two weeks before the semester begins.

Use an individualized instruction form if directed by your faculty or academic advisor. Review your program handbook for more information.

If you are interested in completing an internship (584) for academic credit, please follow the below steps:

  1. Contact your graduate academic advisor to confirm the internship meets your program’s degree requirements.
  2. Then, contact the New College internship manager to learn more about securing an internship and enrolling for graduate credit hours.
  3. After you have received the course permission override to enroll in the 584 course:
    1. register for the class as soon as possible;
    2. email gradudate advising to update the iPOS on your behalf (if the credits will be used toward your graduate degree requirements).
