At the Communication Lab on Arizona State University’s West campus, we believe that every person has something to say and our job is to help them say it in an organized, confident, and compelling manner. We promise to meet speakers where they are, regardless of education, prior life experience, culture, or background. We are dedicated to igniting voices and inspiring tomorrow’s advocates.
For those who aspire to become better public speakers, CommLabASU’s mission is to provide a safe, creative space that helps you develop and improve your oral communication and presentation skills with the latest technology to support you. Public speaking takes many forms and there is a high demand for individuals who are authentic, proficient communicators.
Whether you lack confidence in your speech content, or are nervous about speaking in public, let our mentors and coaches help you. They offer constructive feedback and guidance in a positive, respectful, and professional environment.
Your journey toward speaking and presentation improvement can happen through a number of ways:
A welcoming setting and useful feedback make CommLabASU a great place for New College students enrolled in presentation-based courses (review list of courses we serve) to improve their public speaking skills at all stages of an oral presentation, including idea generation, outline formation, organization, delivery, and self-reflection. CommLabASU is open Monday through Friday and is located on ASU’s West campus in Sands 322. Schedule an appointment or inquire about the availability of walk-in sessions. Phone: (602) 543-5766
In association with ASU Online and the Communication Lab, online public speaking (COM 225) offers an innovative class experience, which engages students in public speaking through an instructive, constructive, and encouraging environment. At the student’s convenience, speech development, organization, speaking, managing speech anxiety, and non-verbal communication are learned, analyzed, and discussed inside a supportive virtual community. A life-long learning mindset is essential in the 21st century. That’s why CommLabASU is proud to offer workplace communication education. Our communication training and development is dedicated to help you and the members of your organization become more effective communicators.
In the Community
Through our Speak Like Sparky Program, CommLabASU works with children and teens in the community to overcome speech anxiety and develop public speaking skills. Programs are available for K-12 school clubs and organizations. We are especially proud to be a continuing partner of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix Youth of the Year Program.
