Internships

Community Partners

For-profit or private companies that host Arizona State University student interns must comply with the Department of Labor’s Fair Standards Act when determining payment for internship positions. Government and non-profit agencies are not held to FLSA requirements.

Community partners are responsible for reviewing applications, interviewing, and conducting background checks. Regular positions, job duties, and responsibilities in your organization are different than internship experiences. Internships should focus on responsibilities that benefit the intern. Community partners are required to provide orientation, training, supervision, evaluation, and learning experiences. Upon hire, employers will work directly with their interns to establish goals that align with the needs of the student experience. Additionally, internship responsibilities cannot exceed 20% clerical work.

NOTE: An up to date Student Placement Agreement must be on file before internships are confirmed.
