AAS to BAS Program

The BAS program is for students who have already earned a community college AAS degree. The program allows students to apply the technical knowledge gained from their associate degree and significantly broaden their education through completion of a concentration of their design that expands on the coursework completed in their AAS or by creating a new concentration in a different area of study. The program includes a unique, personalized area of concentration tailored to the student's individual interests and career goals. The possibilities include applied computing, applied ethics, biology, biomedical research, business, conflict resolution, communication, creative writing, cybersecurity, English, environmental science, film and video studies, forensic psychology, forensic science, interdisciplinary arts and performance, risk communication, peace studies, political science, psychology, Spanish and statistics. The program also includes an internship experience. Students who have earned an Associate of Applied Science degree from a regionally accredited Arizona community college may be eligible to transfer up to 75 credits toward the Bachelor of Applied Science degree. Students who have earned an Associate of Applied Science from an accredited institution may transfer 60 credit hours toward the Bachelor of Applied Science degree.

Cell and Molecular Biology Research (CaMBR)

ASU’s New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences has partnered with Glendale Community College (GCC) to offer an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) to Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) pathway focus in Cell and Molecular Biology Research (CaMBR). The CaMBR BAS focus area is open to all eligible ASU students with an AAS degree. However, the CaMBR BAS curriculum was specifically designed as a 2+2 bachelor’s degree pathway for Maricopa Community College students who have completed GCC’s Biotechnology and Molecular Biosciences AAS degree.  At ASU’s West Valley campus, the program of study for the BAS degree complements GCC's lab skill-intensive AAS curriculum with upper division courses in genetics, evolution, cell biology, molecular genetics and genomics, and biochemistry along with hands-on training, internship and research opportunities in a variety of STEM labs. Graduates of the BAS program with a focus in Cell and Molecular Biology Research (CaMBR) are well-positioned and competitive to apply for high-tech, biotechnology-focused careers. Other students may use the degree to enhance their educational record as they pursue a graduate degree and/or apply for professional programs, including medical and pharmacy school.
