What is FLAGSHIP?

The Future Leaders and Geoscience High-Road Internship Program (FLAGSHIP) is a 10-week program funded in part by the National Science Foundation and is a collaborative effort of Arizona State University and the American Geophysical Union (AGU)

MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Internship Info

FLAGSHIP will work closely with AGU’s Thriving Earth Exchange program, which helps scientists, community leaders and sponsors work together to solve local challenges related to natural resources, climate change and natural hazards. FLAGSHIP interns will learn about the wide range of careers in environmental infrastructure that sustainably develop and protect our communities.

Individuals not enrolled in classes are equally encouraged to participate in this unique career-focused initiative. Interns will choose from a wide selection of community-led projects supported by Thriving Earth Exchange, and will take concrete steps to develop real-world career pathways through guided research, mentoring, and network building with practicing environment and workforce professionals.

Interns will learn first-hand how to navigate professional conferences and directly engage infrastructure leaders, educators and prospective employers.

Additionally, Interns will be supported in Spring 2023 through weekly mentorship and professional development. These virtual meetings will focus on exciting summer educational and internship opportunities and strategies for applying to them. Interns will develop an action plan that maximizes academic and/or career-opportunities.

We Are Inclusive

The FLAGSHIP program seeks to involve students from groups historically underrepresented in the sciences, including Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Hispanic or Latino, female, first-generation college students, veterans, and students with disabilities. FLAGSHIP welcomes lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students; students who have experienced, and worked to overcome, educational or economic disadvantages that may complicate their continued progress in academic or research careers.
