Research Advancement Services

New College’s Research Advancement Services Team provides information and assistance to help our faculty members find funding, apply for grants, and administratively manage their sponsored projects.   
Our expertise includes:
·         Locating funding
·         Interpreting sponsor guidelines
·         Developing proposal budgets and various other proposal components
·         Reviewing proposals for sponsor compliance
·         Completing institutional forms and obtaining institutional approvals
·         Coordinating account activations and account closeouts with ASU’s sponsored projects office
·         Projecting budgets and facilitating budget revisions
·         Assisting with annual and final reports, and arranging no-cost extensions
·         Providing general guidance and resource support for sponsored activities

Melissa Weimer
Assistant Director

Melissa leads New College’s Research Advancement Services team.  She provides strategic support to investigators, facilitating the development and submission of sponsored project proposals and providing guidance on policy and technical matters. She serves as a liaison between principal investigators and the ASU Office for Research and Sponsored Projects Administration (ORSPA) and ASU Foundation. Melissa has been in the research advancement field for over 15 years, beginning her career at ASU in 2006.  She holds a B.A. in Journalism and an M.B.A., and has earned the designation of Certified Research Administrator (CRA).

Jennifer Schulte
Academic Financial Specialist

Jennifer Schulte serves as the Academic Financial Specialist for the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences on ASU's West Campus. In conjunction with the other members of the Research Advancement Team and the three New College schools, she works closely with faculty and staff with their sponsored award needs such as reporting, monitoring and budgeting. Jennifer earned her B.S. in Business Administration from Northern Arizona University, her Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Arizona State University and is currently enrolled in the Ed.D. program at Arizona State University.

Associate Dean

Dr. Ferry is the Associate Dean of Research and Strategic Initiatives.  She works with New College faculty and administration to move forward strategic research, programmatic, or community-facing initiatives and advance research and external funding within New College. She is also the New College liaison with ASU’s Knowledge Enterprise Development (KED), Arizona State University Research Enterprise (ASURE), and the Entrepreneurship + Innovation Hub at ASU Skysong.
