Welcome to NAVSA 2016
The 2016 NAVSA annual conference is scheduled from November 2 to 5 in Phoenix, Arizona at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel. The theme is "Social Victorians," which will examine what it means to speak of the social in the Victorian era and in what ways Victorians were social, antisocial, or both at once. We will also look at how the definition of sociability circulated during the period, and through which structures. We will discuss what models of sociability vyed, prevailed, and emerged.
Plenary speakers include Gowan Dawson of the University of Leicester and Caroline Levine of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. There will also be a panel commemorating the 15th anniversary of Steven Marcus's The Other Victorians.
