The New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (New College), Arizona State University at the West campus, invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Dean.
New College is the core college on ASU’s West campus and consists of three schools – Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies; Social and Behavioral Sciences; and Mathematical and Natural Sciences – offering numerous bachelor’s degrees, minors and certificate programs, and master’s degrees. The Associate Dean reports directly to the Dean and serves as a member of an active, engaged senior staff in the College.
The College is seeking an innovative, dynamic, and entrepreneurial individual to provide senior level administrative expertise to the Dean and Dean’s Office support for school directors. The successful candidate will be a visionary leader with proven skills in academic administration, strategic planning, resource management, and program development, and will be able to promote disciplinary excellence and visibility while stimulating interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and cross-disciplinary interactions and encouraging new opportunities for research, teaching, and service.
Required qualifications: PhD in college appropriate discipline (Arts & Sciences) and eligibility to be appointed at the rank of full professor. Candidates will have a record of excellence in scholarship and teaching that would merit a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of Professor in one of the disciplines in the College. Experience with administrative responsibilities and/or formalized faculty governance processes required. The Associate Dean will be committed to faculty development.
Desired qualifications: Moreover, s/he is a good listener, highly motivated, collaborative, forward thinking and creative, with good judgment, strong leadership skills, and shares commitment to liberal arts education. Candidates ideally have past experience with university promotion and tenure processes.
