NEW COLLEGE

LIFE SCIENCES (Pre-Med)

Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences

The bachelor's degree in Life Sciences seeks to teach biology, chemistry, geology and physics in a way that highlights the links among those disciplines. Students gain a deep knowledge of biology, and the interrelationships between biology and other sciences.

Graduates are prepared to enter graduate programs in human or veterinary medicine or dentistry, to master's and doctoral programs in biology, as well as for employment with state and federal agencies, such as the Arizona Game & Fish Department or with private organizations, including biomedical laboratories or agricultural and environmental consultants.

Hands-on experience in small groups, and one-on-one with individual faculty members, is the cornerstone of the Life Sciences program. Students have the opportunity to work in faculty research laboratories working on the cutting edge of scientific endeavor. Students who pursue independent study in the department are among the most successful at gaining entrance to graduate school, professional school and careers. They publish in top journals and present their results at regional and national scientific meetings.
