Frequently Asked Questions - Graduate Program
- How long does it take to finish the program?
- You have the option of registering for part-time or full-time study. Most part-time students take two years to finish thecoursework and then take another semester or summer to complete the capstone. You can finish the program in less time, but if you are working full-time, we do not recommend that you take more than 9 hours per semester.
- Do you offer courses in the evening?
- Yes. All required courses, and many of the elective courses, are offered in the evening.
- What can I do with a master's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies?
- The program supports the development of skills and knowledge relevant to a wide variety of career fields, including education, government, publishing, public relations, journalism, media arts, and philanthropy. As an MAIS student, you will expand and refine those skills valued by 21st century employers: sharp analytical and critical thinking, creative problemsolving, and the ability to integrate knowledge drawn from diverse perspectives. In addition to cultivating these highly marketable skills, you will have the opportunity to customize your program to support the development of a focused area of study.
- Who are the faculty?
- Our program draws dedicated and dynamic faculty members from across the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, so you have the advantage of working with mentors in the arts, humanities, and social and behavioral sciences.
- How much is tuition?
- Spring 2007 tuition for Arizona residents is $930.00 for 3 hours; $1,860.00 for 6 hours; and $2,965.00 for 7 hours and over.
- How do I apply?
- You can apply online. Please reference the Relevelant Links box.
- Do I need to take the GRE to apply to the program?
- Yes, we do require the GRE, unless you took another standardized test for admission to another graduate program and were admitted to that program. We will accept the LSAT if taken within the last 2 years. There is no minimum required score for admission to the MAIS program. The GRE is just one of several pieces of information used to assess your qualifications for the program. We advise that you allow up to 6 weeks for your GRE scores to be processed.
- Can I transfer any graduate credits into the MAIS program?
- With the approval of the program director, you may transfer up to 6 hours of graduate credit if the coursework is related to your MAIS program of study.
