How do I know what courses will be offered?
ASU publishes the Schedule of Classes online at http://asu.edu/classes.
What if I want to take a course in a different college and/or at a different campus?
Students in the MAIS program are allowed to select graduate-level courses from colleges and programs throughout ASU. If you are interested in taking a course outside of the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences, please review the "Enrollment Requsites" and "Consent" areas in the online schedule of classes. In many cases, the enrollment requirements will simply state that you must be a graduate student. If this is the case, then you should be able to proceed and register for the class online. If the course specifies instructor consent, department consent, or states that you must be in a specific degree program, then contact the course instructor. Provide the instructor with a brief explination of your interest in the course and state that you are a graduate student at ASU. In most cases, the instructor will issue their consent and you can work with the appropriate administrative staff to obtain an override to register. It is ultimately the decision of the college and instructor offering the course to issue consent for overriding restrictions.
The New College graduate studies staff cannot issue requisite or permission overrides for any course outside of the New College.
Individualized Instruction Courses:
Advanced students in the MAIS program with specialized and well-developed topics may choose to take MAS 580: Practicum, MAS 590: Reading and Conference, or MAS 592: Research as an individualized instruction course, working with a faculty member independently. Please follow the steps below to register for an independent instruction course.
1. Consult with the faculty member with whom you want to work. Review the Online Individualized Instruction Form and be sure that you have the information necessary to complete it.
2. Complete the Online Individualized Instruction Form.
3. Register for the course. After you have been notified via email that the course was approved by the instructor and the Program Director, you will be issued a line number to register.
