The Mathematical Sciences and Applied Computing Department encompasses the disciplines of
- Mathematics
- Statistics
- Applied Computing
The focus is on the more applied, rather than theoretical, facets of our disciplines. Based on the interdisciplinary cornerstone of the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, the department is interested in developing interdisciplinary synergies involving mathematical sciences and applied computing. Our faculty is comprised of nationally recognized researchers and teacher scholars who are committed to the study of Mathematics, Statistics, and Applied Computing. The specific interests of the faculty include:
- Databases
- Networks and distributed computing
- Differential equations with applications to biological models
- Industrial statistics and design of experiments
- Biostatistics and biomedical statistics
- Mathematics, statistics, and computing education
Currently the department offers a B.S. in Applied Computing, a Minor in Mathematics, and a Mathematics concentration in Secondary Education. In addition, the courses taught by our department fulfill many General Studies requirements and serve as electives in many programs.
