Welcome to the Language, Cultures and History (LCH) Department web page, where you can learn more about our programs
in American Studies, English, History, and Spanish. Any of our programs can be taken as a major or minor. English and
History courses can be taken as part of a degree in Secondary Education, and we also offer a Writing Certificate
program. Our faculty is comprised of nationally recognized researchers and teachers who are committed to the study
of language, culture, and history in oral and written texts. Given our broader commitments, we also share more
focused interests in the following:
- race, ethnicity, class, and gender, as these are generated by regions, nations, and global systems;
- borderlands, both political and cultural;
- texts and contexts;
- and rhetorics of memory--oral histories, autobiographies, personal writings, testimonies, and narratives.
In this site you will meet faculty and students who work together, using many approaches--learning communities,
internships, community-based experience, film, video, music, and the internet. LCH is unique in bringing together
multiple disciplinary interests and provoking advanced critical responses from both its faculty and its students.
