Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance – Spring 2008 Schedule

The Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance department in ASU’s New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences incorporates a variety of media in the arts world and proudly presents unique installations, exhibits, workshops and performances.

“Future Perfect”

IAP Gallery, UCB, 2nd floor | Jan. 22 – Feb. 1 (opening reception 7pm on Jan. 22nd)

An interactive audio and video installation by New York media artist Ed Purver exploring the possible effects of corporate real estate within a Brooklyn neighborhood. Step inside and the architecture of the future is revealed.

“Cuba: A Través de Mi Ventana II” (Cuba: Through My Window II)

IAP Gallery, UCB, 2nd floor | Feb. 4 – March 7 (opening reception 7pm on Feb. 4th)

A series of three video installations by assistant professor Patricia Clark, who chronicles her extensive travels in Cuba. Included in “Mi Ventana” are “Trabajando Voluntario” (Voluntary Work), “Los Trabajadores” (The Workers), and “La Vide en La Osha Comenzo…” (Life in La Osha Begins…).

“the art of noses” ASU Computer Music Club

7pm, Second Stage West, UCB | March 1

presents a night of silent film performance.
objectives:
make sounds sympathetic to images; synthetic, real, and processed
reinterpret early film footage
contrast sonic and visual atmospheres
stimulate the ears, eyes, and maybe the brain

“Meditations on North and South”

IAP Gallery, UCB, 2nd floor | Apr. 1 – 11 (opening reception April 1st 7pm)

An interactive video installation by assistant professor Marianne Kim and internationally acclaimed electronic artist and technologist Byeong Sam Jeong. “Meditations” is the result of a grant received by Kim from the Arizona Commission on the Arts and is a multi-media performance for stage inspired by “macro” and “micro” events that relate to the border area between her native South Korea and its northern neighbor, North Korea.

“Certain Explanations/Magical Walking”

Second Stage West, UCB | Apr. 11 – 12

This performance is a collaboration between associate professor A.J. Sabatini and scholar/performance artist Lance Gharavi, whose work has appeared on stages, screens, and in journals throughout the U.S. and across Europe.

“Senior Project Night”

IAP Gallery, UCB, 2nd Floor | Apr. 25

A display and installation of media art works created by New College senior students.

Lerman at PHX Museum of Art

May 18

A screening of films created by Richard Lerman based on his research of Death Valley
