General Information

The New College of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences offers annual and endowed scholarships every year for students to help finance their education at Arizona State University. Awards range from $100 to $5,000 per semester and are based on a broad spectrum of criteria. The College is still accepting applications for the Bernard Osher Reentry Scholarship. NEW SCHOLARSHIPS ANNOUNCEMENT

 

BERNARD OSHER REENTRY SCHOLARSHIP

THIS SCHOLARSHIP IS AVAILABLE TO ALL ASU STUDENTS. Refer to the criteria listed below. If you meet the requirements, please complete the Bernard Osher Scholarship Application form (PDF 57kb) and mail to PO Box 37100 MC 1251 Phoenix AZ 85069 or fax to 602-543-4565. Deadline: May 1, 2012.

  • Must be enrolled part-time or full-time in any program at Arizona State University.
  • Must be pursuing their first baccalaureate degree.
  • Must be an adult reentry student between the ages of 25 - 50.
  • Must show evidence of having had their undergraduate degree pursuit at a 2 or 4 year institution interrupted for a cumulative gap of 5 years or more. Must be planning to return to the workforce.
  • Must show evidence of financial need not necessarily determined by FAFSA
  • Must be in good academic standing.
  • Must be an Arizona resident.
  • Must write 300-word essay which thoroughly addresses the guidelines established by the Osher Foundation.
  • If selected, awarded Bernard Osher Reentry scholars must be willing to participate in one focus group meeting in which they will be asked about their experiences as a reentry student at ASU and how the scholarship program could be improved.
  • Deadline: May 1, 2012

How to apply for scholarships?

  1. Review the criteria for each scholarship listed before completing the application to be sure that you meet the requirements.
  2. Complete the New College Scholarship Application online form.
  3. Complete the FREE Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  4. Complete the General Scholarship Application for ASU which is optional - but suggested if you wish to be considered for university-wide scholarships through the Office of Scholarship.

Only one New College Scholarship Application form is used for all applicable New College scholarships and Campus wide scholarships available to New College majors. By completing the General Scholarship Application for ASU (which is optional), you will also be considered for university-wide scholarships administered by the Office of Scholarship.Wester Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) - apply for reduced tuition

The scholarship selection committee will review your application and if you are selected to receive a scholarship, you will be notified via letter sent to the address you have on file with ASU.

  • Must be an undergraduate full or part time student pursuing a major in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences.
  • Financial need not a criteria
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.5
  • Evidence of community service and leadership activities in the past 24 months.

Brandie C. Curtis Scholarship
  • The donor’s preference is to provide support for Apollo High School (Glendale, AZ) graduates enrolled in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences or the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at ASU’s West campus who meet at least one of the following criteria: 1) served in Operation Enduring Freedom, 2) is currently enrolled in ROTC, 3) are active military, or 4) have participated in sports activities.

Dean's Advisory Board Scholarship
  • Must be admitted to any program at ASU’s New College
  • Must meet a minimum GPA requirement of 2.5
  • Full time student preferred
  • Demonstrate verified financial need.
  • The top three candidates that most closely match the criteria will be presented to the Dean’s Advisory Board for their recommendation.

Dorothy B. Levin Scholarship
  • Must be admitted to any program at ASU’s New College
  • Students who have demonstrated an active participation in promoting economic and social justice especially for women
  • Applicants must meet a minimum GPA requirement of 2.0
  • full time student preferred
  • demonstrate verified financial need
  • Preference given to women who will be empowered through education, information and support

Linda Smiley Perseverance Award
  • Must be a Junior or a Senior or a graduate student pursuing a major in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences.
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Must be enrolled at least a three-fourths of full-time enrollment
  • Preference will be given to a single mother
  • Must write a 2-page, double-spaced essay on what keeps them in school (email your essay to nc_scholarships@asu.edu)

SRP Life Sciences Scholarship
  • Must be registered for at least 12 credit hours at ASU’s West campus
  • Must be enrolled in 3 credit hours of Independent Study (LSC 499)
  • Applications limited to 5 pages, single-spaced 12 pt. type, including literature citations
  • Letter of support from sponsoring faculty is required

 Wetzler-Lucking Scholarship
  • Shall be enrolled in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences
  • Shall be a junior/senior
  • Shall be a full-time student
  • Will have maintained at least a cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Shall be an Arizona resident
  • The donor’s preference, if permitted by law and University policies, is to provide support for students who left college for at least 1 year due to family, financial, health or other reasons

Women Studies Scholarship
  • Must be undergraduate full or part time students pursuing a major in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences.
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Must be enrolled or have completed one of the classes in the Women and Gender Studies program at ASU’s New College

FY 2012-13 Campus Wide Scholarships available to New College majors:

ASU Alumni Association West Scholarship
  • Must be an Arizona resident
  • ASU West student who is a junior, senior or graduate student
  • Should prepare a 200 word statement on how scholarship will help them
  • Any college major or field of interest is acceptable
  • Priority given to student demonstrating financial need
  • Must have minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Must be taking at least 9 hours each semesters at the West campus
  • Required to attend one alumni event and board meeting each semester.
  • Financial aid provide qualified candidates to ASU Alumni Assoc. committee and final selection by board of directors

Academic Endowment Scholarship
  • Must be an Arizona resident
  • Must be admitted to an ASU program at the West campus
  • Must have completed at least 56 credit hours
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Enrolled full time (at least 7 hours) for fall & spring semesters

Arizona Public Service (APS) Scholarship
  • Five annual APS Scholarships to students enrolled at Arizona State University West
  • Students should be pursuing a baccalaureate degree at ASU West in math, science, technology, applied computing or finance.
  • Financial need is a factor
  • Approximate amount of each APS Scholarship per year is $2,000
  • Award half of annual amount each semester
  • Minimum GPA required is 3.0
  • Preference is given to students who are eligible for APS internships and should also be on one of the career paths listed on this website, http://www.pinnaclewest.com/main/pnw/careers/STW/default.html

  • May be a full or part-time student at ASU’s West campus
  • Completed at least 56 semester hours of college credits prior to receiving this scholarship

  • For students attending classes or programs at ASU’s West campus
  • Donor’s requirement that students be attending a majority of their classes or programs at ASU West campus
  • Award amount and number of scholarships will vary based on availability of funds as determined by financial aid services
  • Equal weight given to academic promise and financial need

Executive Women International, Phoenix Chapter ASIST (Adult Students in Scholastic Transition) Scholarship

This scholarship is open to adult students at transitional points in their lives. Applicants may be single parents, individuals just entering the workforce or displaced workers. Refer to the criteria listed below.

  • Must be an Arizona resident
  • Must demonstrate Financial Need
  • Preference will be given to female   applicants who work full or part-time while attending ASU West.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Preference given to “returning students” i.e. those who are returning to university-level studies following an absence.
  • Must be juniors or seniors.
  • Be enrolled in a baccalaureate degree program for at least 9 credit hours per semester.
  • List any community service if applicable
  • Attend EWI meeting to be recognized In January or February

  • Must be an ASU West student
  • Must be an Arizona resident
  • Must be a full-time student with junior or senior status in any major interest area
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0

  • For students attending classes or programs at ASU’s West campus

  • Equal weight given to academic promise and financial need

Phoenix Women’s Commission International Women’s Day Scholarship for Re-Entry Women
  • Must be a female re-entry student or woman beginning or returning after having been out of high school for more than 3 years
  • Be admitted to the New College undergraduate program
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Must qualify for in-state tuition and reside within the city limits of Phoenix
  • Two letters of reference with application
  • Must have minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Must attend yearly luncheon

Vernon E. Lattin Cultural Diversity
  • Must be an Arizona resident
  • Must be admitted to any ASU undergraduate program at the West campus
  • Must have completed at least 56 credit hours
  • Must be working on their first bachelor’s degree
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Preference will be given to an underrepresented or economically disadvantaged student
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Must be enrolled for at least 6 credit hours

  • Must be an Arizona resident
  • Recipients shall be full-time, junior or senior level students at ASU’s West campus
  • Scholarship is not renewable
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.5
  • Recipients shall demonstrate a record of academic achievement and community service.
  • Financial need is not a consideration.
