Mission Statement
The New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at ASU's West campus is committed to offering comprehensive interdisciplinary and disciplinary undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
In developing courses for these degrees, the faculty also provides a contemporary liberal arts education for general education and major field needs of ASU's West campus, Management, Education, and Human Services Students.
The New College programs are designed to meet the needs of a diverse population in the West Valley; these students seek a rigorous liberal arts foundation as their basis for pursuing post baccalaureate employment and for continuing their education in graduate and professional degree programs.
The faculty is committed to developing programs that teach students to nurture their intellectual curiosity, that foster their understanding of the diversity and interdependent nature of human experience, that help them develop a critical outlook based on observation and an array of methods of inquiry, and that support their efforts to be compassionate and creative in their approaches to other and to a variety of problems. They make every effort to apply new scholarship in their classes and degree programs.
The faculty is committed to the creation and application of new knowledge, critical perspective, and artistic work. They set the highest standards of scholarship for themselves and foster in their students the same motivation to pursue excellence.
Through its teaching, scholarship, community service efforts, and Fine Arts Cultural Programs, the Arts & Sciences faculty will contribute to the social and cultural milieu of the ASU's West campus community, the West Valley, and the greater Phoenix area.
